android medical app woooooooooooooow

http://medicinenopain.blogspot.com/

 best of the best

1. Medscape

One of the most anticipated apps to hit Android, Health care professionals had been waiting eagerly for this comprehensive medical application. Medscape was just recently released on the Android Market and has already become the number one downloaded medical app for the Android platform.

The amount of free content provided by Medscape is absolutely mind numbing and seems to continuously grow with each update. 7,000+ drug references, 3,500+ disease clinical references, 2,500+ clinical images and procedure videos, robust drug interaction tool checker, CME activities, and more.

Medscape is a great drug reference app — but many don’t realize it’s also a mini-textbook packed with protocols for disease pathologies — great for a quick reference and refreshing you medical knowledge. Its not as detailed as the famous Pocket Medicine Red Book — but it does more than an adequate job of providing clinical pearls from the most common to less common pathologies. On top of this, the application has instructional medical procedure videos and pictures.

2. Epocrates

The free version of Epocrates is considered by many to be an essential drug reference. Useful and easy-to-learn features like the pill identifier, several medical calculators, and drug interaction checker make Epocrates a favorite of clinicians and students alike.

Of note, Epocrates recently announced support for the premium versions of Epocrates on the Android platform.

As with other popular and new Android apps, Epocrates is not available for Android users with older operating systems (version 1.5 or older).

3. Skyscape

This app makes our top ten list for two major reasons: First, until recently Skyscape has been the only high-quality all-in-one type app for Android. Many of the quality android medical apps we have reviewed, such as the Red Book and Netter’s Anatomy have worked within Skyscape’s universal app. Second, it’s available on all Android operating system versions.

Chinese boy Xiao Feng 'gives birth' to twin brother after doctors find foetus growing in his stomach
______________________________
A two-year-old Chinese boy had surgery to "give birth" to his twin brother, after stun
ned doctors discovered his parasitic twin brother's foetus inside his stomach.

Xiao Feng, from Huaxi, China was taken to hospital after his stomach became so enlarged he was having difficulty breathing. X-Rays and MRI scans revealed Feng was carrying the undeveloped foetus of his twin inside his swollen stomach.

Shocked doctors diagnosed Feng as "pregnant" and rushed him into emergency surgery, where he was forced to "give birth" as doctors removed the dead twin foetus, reported the Inquisitr.
The foetus was 20cm wide and had developed a spine, fingers and toes. It had grown so much that it was taking up almost two-thirds of the boy’s stomach, doctors said.

The rare case of conjoined twins, known as cryptodidymus, is the case is extremely rare and possibly unprecedented in medicine, the Inquisitr reports. Conjoined twins form when the fertilised egg fails to separate completely.

Sweet's syndrome

Sweet's syndrome

Sweet's syndrome — also known as acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis — is a rare skin condition marked by fever and painful skin lesions that appear mainly on your arms, neck, face and back.

The exact cause of Sweet's syndrome isn't always known. In
some people, it's triggered by an infection, illness or certain medications. Sweet's syndrome can also occur with some types of cancer.

The most common treatment for Sweet's syndrome is corticosteroid pills, such as prednisone. Signs and symptoms often disappear just a few days after treatment begins, but recurrence is common.

Sweet's syndrome is marked by an abrupt eruption of small red bumps on your arms, neck, face or back — often after a fever or upper respiratory infection. The bumps grow quickly in size, spreading into painful clusters up to an inch or so in diameter.

FACTS ABOUT YOUR BRAIN

4 WEIRD FACTS ABOUT YOUR BRAIN
medicinenopain.blogspot.com
1. Scientists say the higher your I.Q, the more you dream.

2.The brain is much more active at night than during the day.
When you turn off, your brain turns on. Scientists don’t yet know why this is but you can thank the hard work of your brain while you sleep for all those pleasant dreams.

3. 80% of the brain is water.
4. The brain itself cannot feel pain. While the brain might be the pain center when you cut your finger or burn yourself, the brain itself does not have pain receptors and cannot feel pain. That doesn’t mean your head can’t hurt. The brain is surrounded by loads of tissues, nerves and blood vessels that are plenty receptive to pain and can give you a pounding headache

hemorrhage and hemorrhagic disorders

hemorrhage
hemorrhagic disorders

excessive bleeding can result from deficiency of one of the many different blood clotting factors.
the hemorrhagic disorders are:
1- hemorrhagic disorders due to abnormalities of blood platelets:
thrombocytopenia ( thrombocytopenic purpura)

this is a disease characterized by a very low level of platelets i.e. below 50.000\cubicm
there is tendency of spontaneous bleeding from many small capillaries ,usually beneath the skin from mucous membranes and internal organs .
the skin shows many small , purplish spots giving the disease the name thrombocytopenic purpura .
types:
a-idiopathic thrombocytopenia   the cause is unknown
b-secondary thrombocytopenia    occurs in association with aplasia of the bone marrow e.g.  exposure to X rays ,radioactive substances ,neoplastic deposits ,very severe fevers and drug sensitivity.

thrombasthenia
it is a state in which the platelets are normal in quantity but defective in function which may result in a bleeding tendency
it may be primary or secondary e.g. in severe uremia and exposure to certain drugs as aspirin

obesity and its effect on our health.

obesity " overweight"
Obesity is a medical condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to the extent that it may have an bad effect on health, leading to reduced life expectancy and/or increased health problems.People are considered obese when their body mass index (BMI), a measurement obtained by dividing a person's weight in kilograms by the square of the person's height in metres, exceeds 30 kg/m2

= \frac{\text{mass}(\text{kg})}{\left(\text{height}(\text{m})\right)^2}\mathrm{BMI}

Obesity is amongst the leading factors behind death throughout the world. Large-scale european and American studies get that death risk is lowest with a BMI of 20–25 kg/m2 in non-smokers as well as at 24–27 kg/m2 in current smokers, with chance increasing in conjunction with changes in either way. Some sort of BMI preceding 32 kg/m2 may be of a doubled death rate involving women more than a 16-year. In the united states obesity is estimated  to cause 111, 909  to 365, 000 deaths per year,  though 1 million (7. 7%) of deaths in Europe are attributed to excess fat.  Normally, obesity reduces life span by six to eight years, a new BMI of 30–35 kg/m2 reduces life span by two to four years,  though severe weight problems (BMI > 40 kg/m2) reduces life span by 10 years

sugar " diabetes mellitus"

sugar "diabetes mellitus" avoidance and treatment

Diabetes mellitus, or simply sugar, is a group of metabolic diseases in which a person has high blood sugar, either because the pancreas does not produce enough insulin, or because cells do not respond to the insulin that is produced. This high blood sugar produces the classical symptoms of polyuria (frequent urination), polydipsia (increased thirst) and polyphagia (increased hunger).

There are three main types of diabetes mellitus"DM"

Type 1 DM results from the body's failure to produce insulin, and currently requires the person to inject insulin or wear an insulin pump. This form was previously referred to as "insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus" (IDDM) or "juvenile diabetes".
Type 2 DM results from insulin resistance, a condition in which cells fail to use insulin properly, sometimes combined with an absolute insulin deficiency. This form was previously referred to as non insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) or "adult-onset diabetes".
The third main form, gestational diabetes occurs when pregnant women without a previous diagnosis of diabetes develop a high blood glucose level. It may precede development of type 2 DM

sunburn

sunburn avoidance and treatment

One of the most effective ways to prevent sunburn is to reduce the amount of UV radiation reaching the skin. The strength of sunlight is published in many locations as a UV index. The World Health Organization recommends to limit time in the midday sun (between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.), to watch the UV index, to seek shade, to wear protective clothing and a wide-brim hat, and to use sunscreen.
Sunlight is generally strongest when the sun is close to the highest point in the sky. Due to time zones and daylight saving time, this is not necessarily at 12 p.m., but often one to two hours later.

Commercial preparations are available that block UV light, known as sunscreens or sunblocks. They have a sunburn protection factor (SPF) rating, based on the sunblock's ability to suppress sunburn: The higher the SPF rating the lower the amount of direct DNA damage
